I think it's hard to do portraits out or your head. I mean.. it's easy to make up a cartoon character, just a person... But with paintings that look more real, it's tough to make it up out of your head and make it look convincing I think. Maybe not for people who do nothing but portait paintings. There are those small little things that we catch when we're looking at a picture or directly at someone when painting that we somehow miss when we're just drawing out of our head.
It looks very nice though, the colors are very well balanced.
You should do a real self-portrait. I don't think I've ever seen a realistic one, just cartoon "plumpie" Abbys.
More fiddling around with the DS. I really need to work on portraits (among other things!)

That's great! You can get lost for hours while painting. Good colors :)
